Riehler Tal, Barbara-, Boltenstern- und Stammheimer Straße, Cologne, Germany

Between 1927 and 1929 Otto Scheib, Fritz Fuß and Hans Heinz Lüttgen, under the direction of Manfred Faber, built a total of 562 residential units on the site of a former brickworks in the north of Cologne on behalf of the Gemeinnützige Aktiengesellschaft für Wohnungsbau (GAG).

The housing estate, planned as a city within the city, was intended to provide affordable housing for the workers of the surrounding factories.

The three- to four-story apartment buildings consisted mainly of two- and three-room apartments ranging in size from 45 to 65 square meters.

The multi-family houses are arranged in elongated north-south oriented blocks, which in some places open up into large garden courtyards.

Two corner buildings at the crossing of Naumannstraße and Riehler Tal form the main access to the housing estate.

They are adorned with red and white striped plaster borders and basket arch-like window fronts.

The corner buildings on the square in the center of the settlement are designed similarly.

The daily supply of the settlement inhabitants was ensured by a total of thirteen stores.
