1929 – 1930
Architect: Hugo Schlösser
Equestrian statue of Saint George: Karl Rieber
Heilbronner Straße 131–135, Stuttgart
The church was built from 1929 to 1930 according to plans by Hugo Schlösser. The ground plan shows a classic three-nave basilica. The mass of the nave is absorbed by the tower, which is offset to the street. The large outside staircase and the equestrian statue of the church’s patron saint on the tower further loosen up the building mass. The New Objectivity exterior is also continued inside.
In contrast to this the side chapels are structured by expressive concrete ribs. The large mosaic on the back wall of the choir was made by Josef Eberz.
